Home / School News / Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year at École John Stubbs Memorial School!

Happy-First-Day-of-SchoolSchool will start on Tuesday, September 5th, with a half-day session from 8:40am to 11:48am. Busses will run to this schedule. From Wednesday, September 6th school will follow the full day schedule.

First Day of School

Kindergarten: Kindergarten students do not attend school in the first week of school. Instead, there will be a ‘gradual entry’ so that the children have time to become accustomed to their new school life. Letters regarding gradual entry have been mailed to parents who have registered their child. Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Elementary School Students: (grade 1 to 5):

For the first few days of school, returning students will return to their last year’s teacher and classroom. They will stay there until the school board announces that schools can move the students to their new classroom and teacher. All effort is made for this to be done as quickly as possible, usually in the first week of school. When the warning bell rings at 8:40, students should line up in their old classroom line. They should look for their last year’s teacher.

New Students: The warning bell will ring at 8:40. At this time, all new students go to the elementary gym. Once there, they will be brought to their temporary classroom, where they will stay until the school board announces that the schools can move the students to their new classroom and teacher. All effort is made for this to be done as quickly as possible, usually in the first week of school.

Middle School Students:

When the warning bell rings at 8:40, all middle school students should go to the middle school gym. Once there, they should look for their name on the posted class lists and then go stand with their new teacher. There will be a short assembly before the students move on to their new classrooms.

School Supplies – When do we bring them to school?

Grades 1, 2 and 3:  Bring only their pencil case and lunch kit for first week.

Grades 1, 2, and 3: If you have ordered your supplies online and have not picked them up at Staples, (see School Supply List tab), the supplies will be delivered by PAC directly to your new classroom. If you have not, bring all supplies on Monday September 11th.

Grades 4 & 5: Teachers have purchased bulk supplies and parents are asked to pay $50 to cover these costs.  If you have not already paid this fee, payment will be taken at the main office. These supplies will be set up by teaching staff in the classrooms. Bring their pencil case and lunch kit for first week.

Grades 6, 7 and 8: If you have ordered your supplies online (see School Supply List tab), the supplies will be delivered by PAC directly to your new classroom. Bring your pencil case and lunch kit for first two days or until your teachers directs you when to bring in your full supplies.
