We have a few events happening at John Stubbs for Halloween. The middle school will be having a bake sale on Wednesday, a haunted hallway on Thursday and a dance on Friday. The elementary school will be doing various events in their classes and a dress up day on Friday. Please make sure costumes do not have weapons, masks or too much blood.
Halloween candy is always a challenge for parents and children. We all know and have witnessed the impact of sugar on our own bodies as well as that of our children. Please do not send Halloween candy to school.
What to do with Halloween candy? I have heard of some parents who have their children turn in all candy for a toy or a special event with parents (like a movie). I have tried to have my children eat as much as they want for one day and then they give me the rest (I do not eat as much as I want.)
Some children (like my son) have kept Halloween candy for years. This becomes a great science experiment. Is it really food if it lasts for years?
Do not give Halloween candy to your dog. As you probably know that can be really disgusting.
In the past it has been hard for me to throw candy out. I have learned that Halloween is about the dressing up, running around in the dark and counting candy. It did not have to be about gorging on sugar (yes, it is true ,that is what I did as a child and learned how hard sugar is on the body)
If you have some brilliant ideas of how to enjoy Halloween and get rid of the candy please send me an e-mail and I will post it here before the exciting day. Please enjoy your week before Halloween and after as it is a fun time for a child and adults too!
Restitution at École John Stubbs
In an effort to have a united understanding of the term ‘bullying’ at John Stubbs the staff have
developed a school definition:
“Bullying is intentional aggression that takes social, physical, and verbal forms that
create power imbalance.”
We respectfully ask parents, students and staff to avoid strong colognes and perfumes
(included soaps and heavily scented hair products) as we have staff and student with severe
allergies to strong scents.
This applies during the school day as well as school functions.
Thank you in advance for your co-operation

Please contact the school if you are not receiving the autodialer e-mail. These are regular e-mails telling you this website is updated or important school information.
Also below are the contacts for the PAC.
We had a wonderful PAC meeting with a large turnout. It is so exciting to hear the many amazing things that PAC has done and plans to do. Did you know that every Tuesday they sell pop corn to the elementary students? That money raised goes to a charity. Did you know that the PAC has bought Nature science kits for teachers?
The PAC approved the idea of a GAGA ball pitt. Please check it out on the internet. We will be ordering the game and teaching students.
We now have a yellow bench painted at our school. This will be a “buddy bench/check in bench”. Students that need a friend to play with or need a safe place to get help will be able to go to this bench. You can sit on it too if you need a buddy.
This month a number of grade 5 students will be getting trained in peer helping. These students will be dressed in a Jaguar hoodie and will walk around the school helping students solve problems.
Our leadership team is attending the WE training in Vancouver next week. This is a very exciting opportunity for our students.
Please make sure that your child and you are able to access all the communication we try to facilitate to make sure that you and your child know what is happening at John Stubbs. PAC meetings are a great place to find out what is going on and to help make John Stubbs a great place.
Students are learning all the time at John Stubbs. One of the concerns that parents and teachers had was the rules of tag. Some students did not understand what “touc”h tag meant. Students and teachers practiced playing tag until they understood how to play in a way that shirts were not pulled and friends were not pushed. If you could please discuss with your child the importance of being kind on the playground and helping each other it would help the children have a nice recess. Thanks
Wow! John Stubbs has incredible runners. A huge thanks to all the teachers and students who worked so hard to make our x-country running event fantastic. My job was to greet the runners as they crossed the finish line and I was awed by their fitness. Well done John Stubbs Jaguars. Thanks to all the parents who came and helped our runners and made sure that everyone was lined up and ready to go. We had lovely weather and we hope for great weather on the 7th.
It is extremely important that you sign your child out with the teacher. As you may have noticed there were many students at the event and we need you to check in with the teacher before you leave with your child. Also please make sure that your child attends practice. It is hard to be part of the team if you do not attend the practice sessions. I look forward to another great event on the 7th.
We are enjoying many great things at John Stubbs. Middle school students have started exploratories and elementary students are busy learning new things. We are encouraging everyone to speak French as much as possible and all people in the building are learning new words. We are starting to practice our fire drills, earthquake drills and lockdowns. Please reassure your child these drills are to help us keep your child safe.
Also students are learning about voting. We hope that your children are asking you interesting questions about the election.
Thanks again to all the parents who came out to meet the teachers and were so positive about John Stubbs it really is a place where students can “chart their future”
This Wednesday the 23 is meet the teacher at John Stubbs. We hope that you have a chance to speak French with your child and teacher. We had our first all school assembly and spoke about how important it is to try and speak French at John Stubbs. We look forward to seeing you then and the next day is photo day!
